LITTLE Mix have big plans in 2012 – to rock the world with girl power and secure many more No1 hits.
Last year ended on a high for the band, starring South Shields singers Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards, after winning The X Factor and topping the charts with debut single Cannonball.
After taking a fortnight off over the festive period, the pair today told the Gazette how they and bandmates, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, are planning to take the music world by storm.
Perrie, 18, from Whiteleas, said: “We are going to work our bums off in 2012. We don’t want to be around for just a year and then disappear.
“We want to be a success, have lots more No1s – and we want to bring girl power back.
“We want to produce music which girls can listen to and relate to, and create lots of mint songs.
“We know it’s going to be hard work, but we’re prepared to put in the effort, this is our dream and something we all want.”
The group, which became the first girl band to win the ITV1 talent show last month, are planning to get to work on their first album right away.
They will enter the recording studio in the next few weeks before joining the three-month X Factor tour, which will arrive at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on March 19 and 20.
There’s speculation that Spice Girls songwriter Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard will be creating a song for them, while singer and producer Labrinth, will also be involved.
Jade, 19, from Laygate, said: “We will definitely be co-writing a lot of the material. After all it’s not a Little Mix song until we have put our stamp on it.
“But in the past after the performer has won The X Factor, there is a massive wait for them to release their first song and album.
“Whereas we will be getting a head start before we go on the tour, so it will be ready a lot quicker this time around. We just can’t wait to get in there and get started.”
But before they get back to work, the girls have a few down-to-earth new year resolutions to contend with first.
Jade said: “I think I am going to have to learn how to wash, iron and fend for myself more. I am used to my mam doing it all, but I need to learn how to do it on my own.”
While punctuality is something for Perrie to work on.
She said: “I’m always last-minute and rushing about. I get up just in the nick of time and stay in bed until the last possible minute. So I think being more punctual would be a good resolution for me.”
Jade added: “We’re really looking forward to 2012 and we hope Gazette readers have a wonderful new year too.”
